What Sets Us Apart

All About Us

Coffee Beans

Hello, we would like to welcome you to Prairie Bean Roastery 219!

We are Paul and Robin Daoust the owners of both the roastery and the coffee shop that sit alongside the 219 (between Dakota Dunes Casino & Outlook), at the corner where the Hanley grid 764 intersects with the 219.

Travelling the 219 from Saskatoon to Mistusinne/Elbow area had been pretty much a weekly adventure for us for many years. We became avid fans of the roastery and purchased our whole beans there over the years.

My love of coffee…… good coffee, has been a longstanding thing. Paul however loves the roaster. It must have been an Industrial Mechanic's dream to see that shiny new Diedrich Roaster!!

The roasting originally began by Nick and Val many years prior, had started out with them, some green beans, and their very own hot air popcorn popper.

Striving for smooth coffee, unburnt yet flavourful and satisfying to the taste buds. With each tasting and more tasting and then tweaking and tweaking again…… what truly beautiful results were achieved !

Mug after mug and many years later, ten different roasts/blends came to be. Ranging from amazing single origin decaf to blends comprised of beans from two to four different countries, blended and roasted, labelled and packaged fresh many times throughout the month.

We are proud of our prairie driven themed logo and labels.

Many years ago, I had requested a personal “Random Roast” (as they lovingly called it) and that post-it note of instructions still sticks on the side of the grinder in our roastery today.

After one of our stops to pick up beans, both for ourselves and some one pound packages for gifting (we love consumable gifts) we continued our journey bound for the cabin. Nick and Val contacted us.... Are you two interested in taking this roastery and coffee shop into its future?? They had spoken of this scenario a time or two, and today was the day they decided to include us in that conversation!

Our response was that we hadn’t realized it was for sale. They let us know that it wasn’t if we were not interested it wasn’t up for sale, but the two of them felt that Paul and I were the ones that should take the recently constructed coffee shop to new heights.

The process was lengthy, but the decision felt right. Soon enough we were learning the roasting, packaging and shipping end of things and months later the coffee shop opened and became part of the daily routine.

So much to learn, but so happy to be learning!!

We felt and still feel so very blessed to do what we do and as we like to say the commute from the house to the roastery is simply the best. The Meadowlarks, the moose, the fox family, they are all bonuses!

We continue to have the best people appear to work with us. A most amazing crew of young adults that both learn and teach every day! (and impress us time after time, did we mention that?)

We do custom packaging both for advertising and for fund-raising, and along the way have met some incredible folks that believe wholeheartedly in supporting small businesses like ours. Thank goodness for each one that chooses US!

We continue to seek out small-business types of suppliers for our coffee in Saskatoon, throughout Saskatchewan, and perhaps beyond.

We strive for satisfying, smooth tasting coffee and great customer service, and we truly enjoy the folks that stop in along their travels. Furthermore, we have the very best neighbours, the most supportive community, and truly get a most interesting array of folks from literally around the globe it seems. Australia, the UK, USA and provinces across this great country. New customers, with new stories, and we with so much gratitude every time someone chooses to slow down…. To stop in and take the time to smell the coffee (and/or the baking).

We are a Monin distributor as well so we have on offer many different products including a wide range of syrups, sauces, fruit purées, sugar-free concentrates mini syrups and sample packages - the options are endless with this largely gluten-free clean label product! We supply coffee shops, distilleries, restaurants bars and many kitchen coffee stations too.

In addition, we have chosen some of our favourite things to have available for purchase in our little curated shop. Lee’s Bees Honey, sixteen grain products, Aspen Farm jams and jellies, handmade necklaces, bracelets, Canadian made soaps and other quality items. Oh yes, along with an array of Prairie Bean Roastery 219 Merchandise including bunny hugs, caps, toques, golf towels and bags.

Look around, see what we have to offer, and please understand that we endeavour to entertain all sorts of ideas that come our way.

Outdoor markets, remote locations, it’s all an option with us!!

Give us a call or drop us a note, we love new ideas and suggestions.
